Everton could well be on their way to bringing in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea.

Dewsbury-Hall, 26, is poised to leave Chelsea just 12 months out from his move to Stamford Bridge from Leicester City for £30million.

The midfielder has been a bit-part player in West London despite being purchased by his old Leicester boss Enzo Maresca, only making 13 appearances in the Premier League last season.

The former Blackpool man is looking to re-establish himself as a guaranteed starter in the Premier League, and Everton have now lodged a formal bid to bring him to Merseyside.

How will Dewsbury-Hall fit in at Everton?

Dewsbury-Hall’s best position is as a left-sided central midfielder, but can play in either a more advanced or deeper role depending on the system.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

The Englishman is great at pressing down his opponent with a tireless engine, which is crucial towards the end of games against tired midfielders.

His positioning and awareness is also an excellent trait he possesses, as he is able to spot passes that most in the league wouldn’t, whilst also bringing quick link-up play and press-resistance.

Dewsbury-Hall also brings a level of maturity and leadership to the team, having captained Leicester during their Championship-winning campaign in 2024.

All those things combined, this is a signing that could very much take Everton’s one-dimensional midfield to the next level.

Dewsbury-Hall needs to define his role

The main problem the former Foxes man faces right now is a lack of a defined role within his side.

Dewsbury-Hall can be defined as a jack of all trades but master of none type of player, which isn’t as great against the elite Premier League sides.

Year Appearances Goals Assists

2024/25 36 5 4

2023/24 49 12 15

2022/23 34 2 2

Dewsbury-Hall is yet to truly develop offensively in the Premier League

The midfielder has also failed to carry his offensive stats into the top flight, as his goal involvements dropped from 27 to nine from 2023/24 to 2024/25.

If David Moyes can discover Dewsbury-Hall’s correct role and utilise it to its full potential, then Everton have their midfield dynamo for the next decade.
