Pacers Assistant Emerges As ‘Strong Candidate’ For Big Coaching Job

The Indiana Pacers are going to look very different in 2025-26 in multiple ways.

They have already lost a few players, both to other teams and injuries.

And now they could be parting ways with an important coach too.

According to Ian Begley, via Stefan Bondy, the New York Knicks have “talked” to Pacers assistant coach Mike Weinar for their top assistant/offensive coordinator position.

Bondy believes that Weinar is a “strong candidate” for the position, although nothing is official yet.

As @ianbegley reported, the Knicks have talked to Pacers assistant Mike Weinar for their top assistant/offensive coordinator position. I’ve heard he’s a strong candidate for the position.

Weinar has a long history with Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle, and worked for him in both Indiana and during his time with the Dallas Mavericks.

Still, he may be waving goodbye and heading up north.

The Knicks need a lot of support because they just brought in head coach Mike Brown.

Weinar could assist Brown and help the Knicks start a new chapter, after multiple seasons of great improvements while still falling short of their goals.

Weinar has served numerous roles throughout his years in the NBA, and he is celebrated for his offensive knowledge.

The Pacers will miss him if he goes to New York, especially now.

Just a few weeks ago, they parted ways with Myles Turner, who is about to start his first season with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Of course, they will also be without Tyrese Haliburton in the new season because he will be out with his injury.

Last season, they went all the way to the NBA Finals, but how far can they go after all these surprising changes in the summer?

It’s been a very consequential summer for the Pacers, but it might not be over yet.
