Report: Tottenham open talks to sign 'special' Manchester City player who wanted Spurs move in…

Manchester City have several unwanted players who many Premier League rivals are monitoring.

Nottingham Forest are targeting James McAtee as the England U21 international prepares to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, while even Manchester United are looking at Stefan Ortega after Manchester City signed James Trafford.

Jack Grealish is another player popular within the Premier League who Pep Guardiola has deemed surplus to requirements, and Tottenham have now made a move.

Tottenham make approach to sign Jack Grealish

An exclusive from Sports Mole now states that Spurs have made contact to sign the England international after James Maddison suffered an injury on Sunday.

Thomas Frank has described the issue as a “bad” and “brutal” one for the Tottenham No.10 – who experienced problems with the same knee last season.

As a result, Sports Mole believe Tottenham have made an official enquiry over Grealish – who Manchester City fans actually urged Spurs to move for after the injury to Maddison.

Manchester City are open to either loaning out the 29-year-old or selling him on a permanent basis, with only two years remaining on his contract.

Sports Mole add that it is unclear which type of deal Tottenham have in mind for Grealish.

Jack Grealish wanted to join Spurs in 2018

Tottenham have come calling for the attacking midfielder before while he was playing in the Championship with Aston Villa, and the man born in Birmingham actually wanted the move to N17.

Grealish – who Declan Rice has called a “special” player – told the Telegraph back in September 2018: “Of course there’s going to be disappointment there. They (Tottenham) have beaten Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford, they’re playing Barcelona in the Champions League next week.

“I felt that if I’d gone there I could have maybe been in the England squad by the end of the year. At the start of the season my head was swivelled, it was all over the place. Even after the transfer window closed, until the end of August, I wasn’t right.”

All eventually turned out well for Grealish, who won promotion with Aston Villa the following year, before impressing enough at Villa Park to seal his record £100m move to Manchester City.

Now – however – the switch to Tottenham could materialise for the Aston Villa academy graduate after his close friend Maddison was sidelined.
