Why Alexander Isak visits Newcastle training ground amid Liverpool transfer talks

The future of Alexander Isak continues to make headlines, and his latest visit to Newcastle’s training ground has only added more fuel to the fire.

The Swedish striker, heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, was spotted at the club’s facility on Monday — but not for transfer talks.

While Liverpool fans were hopeful the visit meant a deal was close, the real reason was a bit less dramatic. Isak was there for treatment on a thigh issue that’s kept him out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour.

According to Sky Sports’ Pete Graves, the visit was purely medical. None of his teammates or manager Eddie Howe were present, as the squad had just returned from South Korea and were given a day off.

Alexander Isak has left #nufc training ground after more than three hours inside. We understand he received treatment for his thigh issue. Eddie Howe and the players aren't in today as they recover from an overnight flight back from South Korea. Latest soon on @SkySportsNews…

Still, the timing is interesting. Isak has already made his feelings clear—he wants the move. He trained alone recently in Spain and reportedly handed in a transfer request. That doesn’t scream “happy to stay.”

Alexander Isak to Liverpool: Transfer update

The situation is getting harder for Newcastle to ignore. Isak’s absence from pre-season and continued silence on his future suggest he’s pushing for an exit.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are ready to pounce. The Reds are reportedly willing to break the bank, again, if the opportunity opens up.

Newcastle haven’t completely ruled out a sale, but they’ll only consider letting Isak go if they can bring in a replacement. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is said to be at the top of their list, however, their first bid has been reportedly rejected. If he signs, the door may finally open for Isak’s move to Anfield.

There’s still no official bid accepted. But with less than two weeks until the new season kicks off, the clock is ticking. And if you’re a Liverpool fan, you’ll be hoping this race ends with a Swedish striker walking into Melwood.
