In a surprising development, Turkish club Fenerbahce, managed by Jose Mourinho, has reportedly made an approach for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. The move comes as Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford appears increasingly uncertain following a significant breakdown in his relationship with manager Ruben Amorim.
Sources indicate that the rift between the player and his manager became irreparable at the conclusion of last season, leading to Garnacho’s exclusion from the main squad. He was not only dropped from the pre-season tour of the United States but was also instructed to train separately alongside a group of other senior players, including Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia. This group has since been disbanded, with Marcus Rashford, another member, securing a loan move to Barcelona.
The highly-rated 21-year-old has not lacked interest from around Europe, though formal bids have yet to be lodged. Reports suggest Chelsea is his preferred destination, with the London club also showing interest but believed to be biding their time to pressure United into accepting a lower transfer fee. Other top clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Al-Nassir, have also been linked with the Argentine forward.
According to a report from CaughtOffside, Fenerbahce has now joined the race. The Turkish giants have reportedly initiated contact to explore the viability of a transfer, despite facing stiff competition. The same report notes Fenerbahce’s disadvantage in terms of player preference and European pedigree, but the club hopes the Mourinho factor could prove decisive.
Manchester United initially valued Garnacho at a substantial €80 million, but it is now understood they would be willing to accept a fee in the region of €50-60 million. Due to Garnacho’s status as a Carrington academy graduate, any sale would be recorded as pure profit on the club’s books. His current contract with United is set to run until 2028.
