Tyler Morton has made a significant step toward securing a Liverpool exit after West Ham made clear their intentions to sign him this summer.

Graham Potter will hope that a repeat of last season is not on the cards, with the Hammers scrambling to strengthen their squad this window.

West Ham seem to have made respectable progress too, with Callum Wilson the latest to land at the London Stadium.

However, the London club appears far from done and had previously set Morton in their sights as another viable option.

The Hammers were reportedly keen on Morton in a move which would see Harvey Elliott also arrive from Liverpool.

This comes as the club continues to search for solutions for Potter to strengthen his midfield before the Premier League commences. However, a move to London does not seem to be on the cards for Morton, who is set to sign for Lyon.

Potter will be hoping to climb the Premier League table next season

As reported by Alex Crook via X on Monday (4 August), Morton has completed his medical ahead of his £15million move to the French outfit.

This will come as a huge blow to Potter, who no doubt was keen on making the transfer happen. As a result, the Hammers will need to continue searching for reinforcements to ensure they can compete at the highest level next season.

Elliott would still be a good option

While West Ham were hoping that the two Liverpool midfielders would play alongside one another, there is still time to make sure Elliott arrives at the London Stadium.

The Englishman has struggled to become a consistent starter at the Merseyside club despite featuring heavily in the first team. As a result, a transfer to another Premier League side could be an attractive option for him this summer.

However, Elliott would not be the only one to benefit from this transfer. Potter needs midfielders, and after his Under-21 Euros 2025 campaign, Elliot has demonstrated that he can show up when it matters most.

Elliott is a Premier League-proven player

With the perfect blend of youth, talent and hunger to achieve it all, the Liverpool star would be a worthwhile investment this summer.
