Chelsea have already brought in several big-name signings this summer

It has been a summer of much optimism for Chelsea, and that optimism could be set to continue as we approach the new campaign in just under two weeks’ time.

Enzo Maresca’s side ended the 2024/25 season as UEFA Conference League winners and having qualified for the Champions League with the youngest squad in the Premier League. Add to that winning the Club World Cup and securing several more top young signings and things are looking very much on the up at Stamford Bridge, as the Blues dream of winning the Premier League for the first time in nine years.

While that does seem a little out of their reach at present, stranger things have happened and Chelsea may still have a serious say in the transfer market before it slams shut on September 1. One top target could be a step closer to completing a move to west London.

Alejandro Garnacho wants Chelsea

The 21-year-old has been the subject of transfer speculation throughout the window and this move may continue to drag on, as Romano continues that the deal is “not expected to be imminent” and could take some time, as Chelsea’s current priorities are completing player sales while securing a move for RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons. Garnacho may therefore have to wait to complete the move he desires.

The report states that negotiations with Man United have not yet taken place and the price involved will remain a “key factor” in the completion of the deal. Previous reports suggested United may be prepared to accept bids in the region of £40million for the Argentina international.

‘Like a young Cristiano’ - Garnacho has always had high potential

Garnacho has been tipped for the top since he broke through at Old Trafford as a 17-year-old, once receiving some very high praise from United legend Paul Scholes after he scored his first senior goal for the club against Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

Scholes said in 2022: “I’m really pleased for the young lad, he’s been United’s best player. That second touch really makes the goal, he gets it out of his feet and slides it into the top corner. I think he’s been far and away the biggest attacking threat on the pitch. I don’t think the keeper covers himself in glory, but it’s a lovely finish.”

The former United midfielder also said during a previous match against Sheriff Tiraspol: “This crowd they love entertainment. I think this lad was really entertaining. Almost like a young Cristiano at that age.”

Garnacho’s rapid development has stalled slightly under Ruben Amorim, but Maresca will hope that he can get the best out of the Argentine once again if he completes a move to Stamford Bridge. If he takes his game to another level which many believe he can, Chelsea could have a potentially top player on their hands.
