Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min could seal a potential record move to MLS
We saw Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son Heung-Min call curtains to his time at N17 following nearly a decade of service to the North Londoners after moving to the Premier League heavyweights from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.
It was quite an emotional friendly against Newcastle United as the 33-year-old confirmed his imminent departure as he remained behind to complete his highly anticipated move to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC (with Tottenham and Thomas Frank’s blessing).
Let us look at the fee side of things as Son linked with a move away
Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min could seal a potential record move to MLS.
Son Heung-min has been linked with a move to LAFC
The South Korean international has been reportedly closing on a move to LAFC, with the BBC reporting that the fee is to be somewhere along £20m. So if the transfer fee ends up surpassing the £22.5 million that Atlanta United forked out to land Emmanuel Latte earlier this year, it would make the former Bayer Leverkusen man the most expensive transfer in MLS history.
Now this transfer will be the largest sale that Tottenham have made since Daniel Levy sanctioned Harry Kane’s sale a couple of years back, which brought the club a mighty £100 million. But this also shows how much of a marketable player Son is going to be for his new employers even as he enters the latter stages of his career.
While there were a lot of talks about a possible move to the Middle East, with Saudi Pro League clubs looking at Son as the next marquee signing, it looks like he will instead reunite with his former teammate at Hotspur Way, Hugo Lloris, who is also plying his trade at LAFC.
It is the perfect time for Son to be linked with a move away from Tottenham

Son Heung-min will be leave Tottenham this summer
But if we think about it from a logical sense, it does make sense that the 33-year-old is looking to take steps away from Hotspur Way and this is despite the South Korean international’s legendary status at N17. We had seen visible signs in the last season which showed us that Son is past his prime and given how he played in the last season.
And this also means that it plays perfectly for both the parties as they look to allow the South Korean to explore a fresh move away from Tottenham. It will be highly emotional to be seeing the Lilywhites without Son when the next season comes around. He will be surely missed and celebrated within the lanes at N17.
