Chelsea step up interest in 18 G/A Bundesliga playmaker, talks advance

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have stepped up their pursuit of RB Leipzig attacking mainstay Xavi Simons, with talks advancing at pace.

According to a report from Sebastien Vidal, Chelsea are closing in on the signature of Xavi Simons. The Blues are keen on adding the Dutch international to their squad at all costs and have stepped up their efforts to strike a deal with RB Leipzig.

Simons has only gone from strength to strength since joining Leipzig in the summer of 2023. While it was an initial two-year-long loan deal, the German club made the move permanent at the start of the year.

It has only been six months since his move was made permanent, and with two years still left on his deal, Simons already has his heart set on a move away. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder believes he is ready to take the next step in his career.

Despite struggling with a few injuries, Simons was still one of the standout performers for Leipzig last summer as he contributed towards 19 goals in his 33 outings. While his impressive performances have attracted a lot of interest from across Europe, he seems keen on joining Chelsea.

Chelsea are closing in on Simons’ signature

The Blues made initial contacts last week and have managed to convince the Dutch international about a move to Stamford Bridge. With personal terms already agreed, the London club have been looking to strike a deal with Leipzig.

They have stepped up their efforts to land the 22-year-old and are believed to be in advanced talks with the German club. Maresca is quite keen on having him in his squad thanks to his ability to create as well as score.

While he prefers playing as a ten, Simons can pretty much feature anywhere in attack, which will give the Italian manager a lot of tactical options. Apart from completing his signing, the Blues are also looking to offload a few of their stars in the coming days. Chelsea are set to be quite busy as we head into the final weeks of the transfer window.
