Manchester United have had a very decent pre-season so far. While there has been nothing outstanding on display, there have been signs of improvement under Ruben Amorim that offers a glimmer of hope for the future ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
With a few weeks still left to go in the summer transfer window, there are potential additions that Man Utd can make to the squad.
News –Report – Man Utd are prepared to meet the price to secure signing
It is imperative that Ruben Amorim goes into the new season with a comfortable squad but to do so, the club might have to get the exits sorted.
Now, as per Spanish outlet SPORT, Manchester United want to sign talented Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez.
The 22-year-old came through the La Masia academy and has been a key part of the first-team for the past couple of seasons under Xavi and later, Hansi Flick.
Now, the report claims that the Red Devils are willing to double the wages Fermin is earning at Barcelona, which basically means they are willing to agree to a £134,000 a week contract. The Spaniard currently earns around €4m/year at Barcelona.
Should Manchester United sign Fermin Lopez?
Fermin is highly regarded as one of the most talented young attacking midfielders in La Liga. However, the presence of Dani Olmo means he is not a guaranteed starter.
It is not just Manchester United interested in signing him though, with Chelsea, Arsenal and even Saudi Arabia interest.
However, Barcelona continue to have a very important role for Fermin and value him at over 70 million euros.
He is one of the substitutes off the bench. He has affected many games with his quality off the bench. Over the course of the season, such depth is unbelievably essential.
Lopez featured in multiple midfield and offensive positions for the Catalan giants last season, and directly contributed in 18 goals (8 goals and 10 assists).
One thing you can say though is in the unlikely scenario of Manchester United managing to convince him to come to Old Trafford, he would be a ceiling-raising player for the Red Devils squad. For Ruben Amorim, he would be one of the most talented players at his disposal.
Regardless, unless a scenario arises where Barcelona are forced to make a sale in the coming weeks, they are unlikely to open the door to Fermin. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.
