Manchester United were crowned winners of the 2025 PL Summer Series overnight after their 2-2 draw with Everton.
And while it is a trophy that pales into scant insignificance to the many major honours United have won in their rich history, Ruben Amorim may look back on this last fortnight as a major milestone in his reign.
It has been far from plain sailing for the Portuguese since he inherited the Old Trafford hotseat in November last year and he has had to endure some turbulence in his opening months as manager.
United finished 15th in the Premier League last term and only managed two Premier League wins in 2025 against teams who weren't relegated to the Championship.
They also missed out on European football this season when they were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in Bilbao back in May.
United's board have stuck by Amorim, though, and have backed him in the transfer market with the signings of forwards Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
A new centre-forward is on the wishlist, too, as well as a new midfielder. The belief is that the short term pain United have endured will benefit them in the long run - particularly with a full pre-season working under the former Sporting manager.
And the early evidence has been positive. While there was some negativity around the draw with Everton, wins against Bournemouth and West Ham - two teams who turned over United so easily last season - felt significant.
United's players have repeatedly spoken about how they feel they are getting to grips more with Amorim's methods. If that is the case, and United are able to beat the teams they should be beating - something they struggled to do last season - there could be reason to be positive about their prospects this term.
