Report: There are some figures at Newcastle who remain convinced Alexander Isak will stay

Alexander Isak remains a Newcastle United player and it seems some inside the club expect that to be the case for the next few months at least despite the pursuit of Benjamin Sesko.

It is of little secret that Isak wants to leave Newcastle this summer, with Liverpool keen to sign him.

Liverpool have had one offer rejected for Isak and could yet make another bid for the wantaway Sweden international.

Eddie Howe has criticised Isak after he undertook an individual fitness regime in Spain, having previously been unavailable for Newcastle‘s pre-season tour of Asia.

Isak to Liverpool has often seemed like an inevitability but it seems some inside St James’ Park still think he will end up staying.

Newcastle United could keep Alexander Isak

According to iNews, Newcastle’s “intention” would be to keep Isak and sign RB Leipzig forward Sesko.

Newcastle made a club-record bid for Sesko worth an initial £65.5million on Saturday, though the world is waiting for his decision amid rival interest from Manchester United.

The report adds that sources are adamant that Newcastle would only consider selling Isak if they signed two strikers AND Liverpool met their huge valuation of around £150million.

It’s also claimed that “others” inside the club remain “steadfast” that Isak will stay.

What Alexander Isak did on his first day back at Newcastle United

On Monday, Isak was back at the Newcastle United training ground.

According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie on social media platform X, Isak spent almost four hours getting treatment on the thigh issue that has ruled him out of pre-season so far.

Howe and the rest of the Newcastle United squad were given days off after flying back from their pre-season tour of Asia after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham in Seoul.

It remains to be seen what happens in the Isak saga next. There have been so many twists and turns that it is hard to predict what’s to come.
