Benjamin Sesko continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United this summer. Ruben Amorim's side are in the market for a new No.9 and have earmarked the RB Leipzig forward as their first-choice striker target.
Arsenal wanted Sesko, 22, earlier in the transfer window but the Gunners decided to chose Viktor Gyokeres, who has since signed in a deal worth £64million from Sporting CP, instead. It has left Sesko's future uncertain, with United and Newcastle now pushing hard for his signature.
Eddie Howe's side are desperate to recruit a new centre forward with Alexander Isak keen to leave and make the summer move to Liverpool. They have Sesko right at the top of their shopping list and are determined to beat United to sign the ex-Red Bull Salzburg man.
Here at the latest transfer updates surrounding Sesko's future...
Sesko offer
RB Leipzig have received an improved offer from Newcastle United to sign Benjamin Sesko, according to The Athletic. The Magpies lodged a first bid - believed to be worth £69.8million - for Sesko on Saturday but Leipzig felt that was insufficient and rejected it.
Now, Newcastle have come in with a second proposal in the region of £78.4m including add-ons. It's unknown whether that is going to be enough for the Bundesliga side to accept and allow him to leave. United have yet to make a formal offer for the Slovenia international but are in discussions with Leipzig.
Newcastle pushing
Newcastle are pushing hard to agree deal for Sesko after the Magpies gained encouragement that he would be willing to join the club, as per the Daily Mail.
It's not known what his camp have communicated to United and all outcomes are possible, but Newcastle are moving fast to get an agreement reached for the Slovenian international.
Sesko, who scored 21 goals in 45 matches for Leipzig last season, is Newcastle's top attacking target and there is a determination to accelerate a deal, especially after they reputedly were told on Monday that he wants to sign.
More confusion
According to German outlet BILD, Sesko has told both United and United that he only wants to join them, adding more confusion and uncertainty to the mix.
BILD's Leipzig insider wrote: "The crucial question is: What does the Slovenian want? According to BILD, he has told both clubs that he only wants to join them. But all sides are now putting pressure on him."
