25-year-old midfielder set for Ipswich Town medical

Ipswich Town are determined to secure an immediate return to the Premier League in the 2025/26 season. Despite their brief spell in the top flight, the club showed character and now approaches the new campaign from a position of strength.

With the highly rated Kieran McKenna still at the helm, the Tractor Boys are widely considered one of the Championship’s leading promotion contenders. However, there’s no room for complacency; success will have to be earned.

The squad has already been bolstered by some astute summer signings, although a move for Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney appears to have fallen through. However, another midfielder looks set to join, and he is a favourite of Ipswich Town.

According to reporter Sacha Tavolieri, via X, Ipswich Town have agreed a deal to re-sign midfielder Jens Cajuste. The Swede will return on loan once again for this upcoming season.

ITFC have agreed a mandatory obligation to buy Cajuste if they are promoted this season. The fee is around €6.5m, which would be on top of an initial €1m loan fee.

Jens Cajuste is a top signing for Ipswich Town

Amid a difficult 2024/25 campaign with little to celebrate, the loan arrival of Cajuste provided some much-needed quality at Portman Road. The Swedish international brought stability and composure in midfield, proving to be a key figure despite the team’s struggles.

Although his efforts weren’t enough to steer the club clear of relegation danger, Cajuste’s performances didn’t go unnoticed. With a return to Napoli looking unlikely, it’s no surprise that other clubs are now circling for his signature.

The 25-year-old, who is also eligible to play for the United States, featured 33 times in all competitions for Ipswich. He scored once—a consolation goal in a 4-2 loss to Nottingham Forest—and chipped in with one assist.

An excellent start to the week in terms of Ipswich Town transfers

Cajuste is not the only deal that Ipswich Town look set to seal today. The Tractor Boys also look to have beaten Birmingham City and Middlesbrough to Ajax forward Chuba Akpom.

Akpom will be a perfect pickup for ITFC, and fine competition for George Hirst. His goals should ease the pain of Liam Delap’s move to Chelsea earlier in the window.

Securing Cajuste and Akpom’s signature’s early in the week will put them in good stead ahead of the opening day aginst Birmingham City. It will be interesting to see how McKenna selects his side.
