From Germany: ‘Final stretch’ as Newcastle United enter crucial hours to complete transfer

Newcastle United and Manchester United are battling for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško this summer.

The Magpies have already seen their initial bid of €75m plus €5m bonuses get rejected.

On Monday, Bild reported the striker has informed both Newcastle United and Manchester United that he wants to join them. Late on Monday, David Ornstein reported Eddie Howe’s side have made an improved offer of at least €80m.

Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg then took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide the latest on Newcastle’s proposal.

He explains the Tyneside club are ‘pushing hard’ with the new offer of €80m plus €10m bonuses. The Slovenia international is yet to give his approval as Manchester United are still keen.

In another post on X, the Sky journalist states the EFL Cup winners want Šeško to make a decision soon. He adds ‘Tuesday could be decisive’, likely for the Magpies to try and find an agreement.

Another Sky journalist, Philipp Hinze, reports the 22-year-old’s ‘transfer poker is entering the final stretch’ after Newcastle made a new offer. He adds ‘crucial hours ahead’ and ‘it now depends on Man United and Šeško’.

This indicates if the Red Devils were to not respond to Newcastle’s latest offer, Šeško may join Howe’s side.
