Nottingham Forest edge close to deal for 18-cap star and Edu absolutely loves him - journalist

Nottingham Forest are far from finished in the transfer market this summer, with more gaps in the squad to plug before the big kick-off.

Forest have signed Igor Jesus this summer, with Jair Cunha, another Botafogo player who has also come to the club during the window.

Last week, Forest signed Dan Ndoye from Bologna, and he looks like a very suitable replacement for Anthony Elanga, who was sold to Newcastle United last month.

Forest are close to signing Angus Gunn and it would seem as though the Reds might be edging closer to getting their top midfield target over the line.

Nottingham Forest make progress on Douglas Luiz deal

According to Italian football journalist Gianni Balzarini, Forest are continuing to advance for Luiz with a deal thought to be close to being struck.

Forest are closing in on an agreement worth around £38 million in total, with £8 million paid to take the midfielder on loan for the 2025/26 campaign, with the Reds agreeing to sign him for a later date for an obligatory £30 million.

Luiz is on borrowed time at Juventus. He barely featured for the Old Lady last season, making just 27 appearances in all competitions and largely finding himself among the subs.

Everton and West Ham have been keen on signing Luiz this window but it would appear that European competition has given Forest the edge over other Premier League clubs.

Edu will be desperate to get Luiz over the line

Edu is getting his feet under the desk at the City Ground and this isn’t his first rodeo when it comes to trying to sign Luiz.

The Forest figure tried to sign Luiz on two occasions when he was in place at Arsenal, with the player doing the business for Aston Villa and making over 200 appearances.

Given that Edu has been in this position before, he won’t want to lose out on him once again, and hopefully, this can be positive news for Forest.

Luiz can operate as a number six or a number eight, and having the presence of such an experienced player in the Premier League in the engine room can only be a good thing for Forest this season.
