Report: West Ham make approach to sign 'one of the best goalkeeping talents in Europe'

West Ham United are exploring a potential summer move for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, Italian publication ParmaLive has claimed.

The Hammers have placed the Japan international on their goalkeeper shortlist alongside Botafogo’s John Victor, and have already registered their interest with a reported initial approach.

Graham Potter is keen to bring in a new goalkeeper before the transfer window shuts on September 1, as he looks to complement Alphonse Areola with a strong option between the sticks.

Suzuki is under contract at Parma until June 2029 and is considered a key player for the Serie A club, who only signed him last summer from Belgian side Sint-Truiden.

Parma reject initial approach for the 22-year-old

Zion Suzuki

According to ParmaLive, Parma have rejected West Ham’s initial approach for Suzuki but are not necessarily opposed to the 22-year-old's departure this summer.

The Serie A club reportedly value the Japan international at €30m (£26m) and are prepared to entertain offers in that region.

West Ham have been made aware of Parma’s demands for Suzuki and have yet to step up their interest, with Botafogo’s John Victor also under consideration in their search for a new goalkeeper.

Suzuki was heavily linked with a Premier League move in the past 12 months – Manchester United are believed to have considered the 22-year-old, who has been praised as ‘one of the best goalkeeping talents in Europe’.

West Ham have been one of the quieter Premier League clubs so far this summer, with Callum Wilson, Kyle Walker-Peters and El Hadji Malick Diouf their only three senior arrivals.

The Hammers are now in advanced talks to land Victor as their fourth addition and have also considered a move for Stoke City shot-stopper Viktor Johansson.
