Sunderland are close to finalising a season-long loan for Chelsea striker Marc Guiu, according to The Athletic. Sunderland are preparing for life back in the Premier League and the Black Cats want striking reinforcement at the Stadium of Light club. The Blues have included a clause which would see the newly-promoted club pay a penalty fee if the 19-year-old Guiu does not play a certain number of games. Sunderland are comfortable with it and do not see the clause as an issue.

Chelsea inserted a similar clause in Armando Broja’s loan to Fulham last year, and the Black Cats will need to adhere to it if they do not want to fall foul of the penalty fee. The ‘fantastic’ and ‘exceptional’ Guiu made 16 appearances for the Stamford Bridge club across all competitions last term, weighing in with six goals, and he will fancy his chances of impressing under head coach Regis Le Bris at Sunderland. The Barcelona academy graduate has huge potential and did play seven games for the first-team of the La Liga club back in 2023-24, scoring twice before leaving for Chelsea last summer.

The Black Cats are now offering him an opportunity to establish himself as a Premier League regular, and he will be desperate to grab the opportunity.

Sunderland have completed deals for Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra, Granit Xhaka and Robin Roefs so far this summer, but more additions are still expected in the final four weeks of the transfer window.
