The 2025 summer transfer saga at Elland Road undoubtedly centred around Igor Paixao. After weeks of negotiations and multiple bids, it is understood Feyenoord accepted an offer of €32million, with €3million in add-ons, from Leeds United for their prized asset.
But Marseille stepped up their interest in Paixao and upped their offer to over £30m for the Brazilian winger. Paixao elected to join the Ligue 1 outfit, who will be competing in the Champions League next season. The 25-year-old - now the most expensive signing in Marseille's history - was presented to the French media yesterday at a press conference after penning a five-year contract.
Paixao joined the French giants just two days after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang completed his return to the club after a season in Saudi Arabia. When asked what “motivated” him to join Marseille, Paixao said: “That’s an easy question. OM is a club with values. It’s very special for me. I want to give my all. It’s a big responsibility, we’re going to do something great.”
He earned his big-money switch after registering 18 goals and 19 assists last season. “This city is full of energy, and it motivates me. When I step on the pitch at the Vélodrome, I want to fight for these people," said Paixao.
The forward is currently recovering from a minor injury. He added: "I can’t wait to play in front of these fans. It’s going to be something special."
