'In the mood': What Rodri is 'fully focused' on right now amid rumours Real Madrid want to sign …

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for months.

Real Madrid planned to monitor Rodri’s progress recently at the FIFA Club World Cup, which illustrates how highly they rate him.

The 29-year-old only has two years left on his deal and in recent weeks, the Sky Blues have been focused on tied their players down for the long run, with Nico O’Reilly and Ruben Dias agreeing a new contract with Manchester City.

Real Madrid hoped to sign Rodri as they believed his contract talks with the English giants had not progressed.

Rodri would prioritise Man City stay over Real Madrid transfer

Manchester City cannot afford to lose the Spaniard to another club anytime soon, considering he is arguably their standout player alongside Erling Haaland.

Furthermore, the Spaniard could be one of the prime candidates to become their next captain after Bernardo Silva, whose contract expires in 2026.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed Rodri would prefer to negotiate a new contract with Manchester City over signing for Real Madrid, with the midfielder “fully focused” on returning to his best physical condition off the back of his ACL injury.

Romano claimed on DAZN Futbol: “I think he’s in the mood to negotiate it, probably to talk it over with Manchester City. So, Manchester City will be the priority because of course, they’ve always been there for him through difficult times as well, the injury and the whole season.”

“So, for now, Rodri is fully focused on Manchester City, fully focused on getting back to his best condition.”

Rodri’s wages in new Man City contract offer

Perhaps unlike at Real Madrid, Manchester City are ready to make Rodri their second-highest paid player after Haaland, according to Fabrizio Romano.

🚨🔵 Manchester City are set to offer new contract to Rodri valid until June 2029.

The Ballon d’Or winner could be handed a two-year contract extension by the Sky Blues.

Over the next couple of weeks and months, Manchester City fans will be hoping Rodri puts pen to paper and ends the speculation around any potential return to his hometown of Madrid.
