Liverpool’s pre-season has been illuminated by the emergence of 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha, who has transformed from promising academy prospect to a genuine first-team contender in spectacular fashion.

The teenage winger has delivered performances that have left some fans demanding his inclusion in Arne Slot’s senior squad for the upcoming season.

Against Yokohama F. Marinos, Ngumoha demonstrated his ability to create something from nothing, scoring a spectacular solo goal.

The Athletic Club goal was even more outrageous, coming just two minutes into the match at Anfield.

Ngumoha won possession near the centre circle before launching into a driving run straight down the middle of the pitch.

What followed was pure magic – the teenager opened up his body and curled a magnificent 20-yard strike into the far corner.

And now Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has revealed that Liverpool is planning to offer a new the teenager a new deal:

“Liverpool believe this kid is special, Liverpool are preparing a new contract proposal for Rio, with maximum relaxation, there is no pressure.”

“But Liverpool want to show to this kid that they trust him, and this kid is showing Liverpool that he really trusts this project.”

“He wanted Liverpool and now the feeling between them is fantastic. Liverpool really believe that they have a diamond in their squad.”

The Italian then revealed that Liverpool always considered him an “important signing” – which could suggest Ngumoha could be in the first team this season:

“13 months ago when I broke this story, the message I got from those at Liverpool was to remember this name, because the transfer window was quiet, the last one,” Romano continued.

“But someone at Liverpool told me, Rio Ngumoha is going to be an important signing and you will see.”
