'Never': Goncalo Guedes makes honest admission about his Wolves spell in first Real Sociedad…

Goncalo Guedes is no longer a Wolves player, after completing a permanent transfer to Real Sociedad.

The forward has just brought to an end a three-year spell at Molineux, with Guedes being sold for just over £5 million.

Wolves fans have questioned the fee for Guedes, given the player originally cost £27.5 million.

It was a turbulent three years for Guedes to say the least. After just half a season, he headed out on loan to Benfica, with Julen Lopetegui claiming he just didn’t want to be at Wolves.

Guedes then spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Benfica and then Villarreal.

Guedes then surprisingly stayed at Wolves in 2024/25 after Gary O’Neil reintegrated him, and he chipped in with five goals and five assists.

A couple of weeks ago, Guedes spoke warmly about the Wolves squad, potentially hinting that he could stick around again.

But his exit is now confirmed – and Guedes has actually made an admission about his time at Wolves.

Guedes was often criticised during his time at Wolves.

In his first season, fans noted that his body language could be poor. Compared to others around him, he gave off the impression that he wasn’t particularly happy.

While Guedes made some decent contributions last season, there was still a feeling for many that Guedes just didn’t have his head fully in the game at Wolves.

Now, after becoming a new Real Sociedad player, Guedes has admitted that he actually just didn’t settle in England.

He said in his first interview with his new club: “I never fully adapted in England, and now I’m hoping to return to my best level as quickly as possible.

“I’ve already spoken with the coach, I understand what he expects from me, and I’m ready to give my all – both on and off the pitch.”

Guedes will certainly like to hope his move to Sociedad will be good for him, since he has obviously played in La Liga before with Valencia.

Guedes’ move to Wolves was a transfer miss from Jorge Mendes

Guedes’ move to Molineux was facilitated by super agent Jorge Mendes.

Mendes has done a lot of good work in terms of bringing players to Wolves. But he and the club really missed the mark with the Guedes transfer.

He struggled, and unfortunately, many fans never truly warmed to him.

He cost £27.5 million to bring in and Wolves have not had a great deal of value from him on the whole.

Guedes is potentially one of the worst transfers of the Fosun era, but he is clearly not a bad player, and fans will now look to see if he can rediscover his mojo back in Spain.

With a World Cup looming next year, Guedes – who’s been out of the picture for Portugal – will likely be highly motivated to succeed.
