Report: Chelsea insert genius condition into Marc Guiu loan to avoid painful Andrey Santos repeat

Chelsea are set to loan out one of their top young prospects this summer, however are taking the necessary steps to ensure his time away is productive.

Marc Guiu is set to join Sunderland for the upcoming season after the Black Cats secured promotion back to the Premier League.

Despite Guiu’s flight to the North-East being delayed, the Spaniard is still expected to be playing top-flight football next season, looking to help Sunderland avoid an instant return to the Championship.

Leipzig were also keen on Guiu, but Chelsea’s desire to have him remain in England looks to have seen their attempts to replace Benjamin Sesko have to look elsewhere.

Chelsea include penalty fee for Sunderland in Marc Guiu’s loan deal

The Blues will be very keen to make sure that he is given regular opportunities wherever he plays next season, after being stung in the past by poorly-selected loan deals.

Those in charge seem to have taken the required steps this time though, and according to The Athletic, a clause has been included that will see Sunderland pay a fee to Chelsea if he does not play a certain amount of games.

The report goes on to say that their fellow Premier League side are comfortable with these conditions, and believe it will not become an issue.

Guiu impressed greatly during his first season at Stamford Bridge, making a real impact in the Conference League in particular.

Chelsea learn from Andrey Santos disaster

Andrey Santos is set for a big season at Stamford Bridge, with it being his first as part of the Chelsea first team.

This has come after a very strong 18 months on loan at Strasbourg, however this came later than many would have wanted.

Santos was first sent on loan to Nottingham Forest, although played just seven minutes for them in the Premier League before he was recalled in January.

The half-season was useless for the Brazil international’s development, and it is clear Chelsea are keen on not having a repeat of this with Guiu.
