The countdown to the new Premier League season is now well underway. There is less than a fortnight to go until Leeds United face Everton in opening their fixture.
It promises to be a special night under the lights at Elland Road as the Whites make their top flight return after a two-year absence. Daniel Farke has reshaped his first team squad, recruiting seven new players. United have spent around £75m in the transfer market but still want to bring in further reinforcements before the serious stuff begins.
Their opening day opponents, Everton, meanwhile, have reportedly agreed to sign Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in a deal worth around £28m. It is believed Dewsbury-Hall will now finalise personal terms and undergo a medical at the Merseyside club despite late interest from Fulham. The former Leicester City man has struggled for game time since moving to Stamford Bridge.
The Toffees have also been in negotiations with Southampton for winger Tyler Dibling. Sources in Merseyside say a third Everton bid in the region of £40million plus add-ons is expected to be rebuffed by the Championship club. It has been suggested David Moyes' team could walk away from the Dibling deal if the valuation for the 19-year-old doesn't drop.
Speaking after the 2-2 draw with Manchester United in their final Premier League Summer Series match on Sunday night at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Moyes said: "I think there'll be deals next week. I think we're getting much closer, but I felt that four or five weeks ago as well. Obviously, we're getting near the tickly bits and we've got to get some things done."
