What Bryan Mbeumo has been doing 'extra' in Man United training to catch up to new teammates

Manchester United fans got their first glimpse of Bryan Mbeumo in action during the pre-season friendly against Everton.

After waiting over six weeks for Manchester United to sign Bryan Mbeumo, Ruben Amorim also waited patiently to give him his debut.

United fans were amazed by Mbeumo during the 2-2 draw against Everton, but the £65m arrival was only given 45 minutes of action on his first appearance.

Mbeumo was left out of the previous two friendlies because Amorim and his backroom staff were keen to give the 25-year-old time to settle and catch up to the fitness levels of his new teammates.

Bryan Mbeumo has been doing ‘extra’ sessions with Man United youth

Mbeumo has settled in well at United, with Amorim delighted with his impact on the squad so far.

After making his debut against Everton, Mbeumo sent a message to fans thanking them for their support, and it seems he has been working extra hard behind the scenes to make sure he is ready for the start of the season.

According to The Athletic, Mbeumo has been taking part in extra sessions with United’s youth players, with training held at match intensity to make up for their lack of minutes.

Led by Amorim’s assistant Carlos Fernandes, Mbeumo has been involved in intense four-vs-four drills designed to improve player endurance and fitness levels.

With less than two weeks to go until United face Arsenal on the opening Premier League weekend, Mbeumo is aiming to be ready to hit the ground running.

Rio Ferdinand was right about Bryan Mbeumo’s character

Before United had even signed Mbeumo from Brentford, club legend Rio Ferdinand gave some insight on the Cameroon international.

Ferdinand raved about Mbeumo’s professionalism and claimed that he would immediately improve the dressing room by holding himself to high standards.

“I know a couple of guys who have trained with him in the season, outside of the club, and said that his attention to detail, his work ethic, how he takes care of himself – it’s at the highest order,” Ferdinand said.

So far, Ferdinand’s claim has been spot on about Mbeumo. Amorim has been pleased with Mbeumo, and praised his first performance for United.

Amorim has been strict about United’s fitness levels this summer and Mbeumo needed to catch up after missing the first half of the pre-season schedule, but he is certainly putting in the work to be ready.
