Report: Chelsea want £40m player gone ‘very soon’ after sudden move from PL club

Chelsea could be about to get rid of one player very quickly as Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers signal their interest.

The last time Chelsea and Wolves conducted transfer business was over Pedro Neto. He completed a move from Molineux Stadium to Stamford Bridge a year ago, and he enjoyed a very strong debut campaign in West London.

It is now claimed that one individual could get the chance to move in the opposite direction.

Enzo Maresca’s side are getting rid of individuals at a rapid rate as they trim down their squad size. Chelsea have sold several high-profile players already this summer, including the likes of Joao Felix to Al-Nassr and Noni Madueke to Arsenal.

Wolves make move for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi

Chelsea signed Axel Disasi for around £40m (Daily Mail) from Monaco in 2023, but it looks like his days at the club are numbered.

It was reported in July that Disasi is expected to leave Chelsea this summer following a loan spell at Aston Villa in the second half of last season. Now, Vitor Pereira’s Wolves side have emerged as a suitor for the French defender.

Journalist Simon Phillips claimed via Substack on Tuesday that Wolves have made a ‘late drive’ for a potential move to sign Disasi this summer.

He’s explained that Chelsea’s focus this week is on completing more sales. Apparently, they are keen to sell the 27-year-old but have received mostly loan to buy offers so far.

In addition, Phillips says Chelsea remain confident of selling Disasi and are trying to get it wrapped up ‘very soon’.

Even though Newcastle could turn their focus towards Disasi, it sounds like Wolves have jumped the gun for the versatile defender, who can cover at centre-half or right-back.

Axel Disasi could be a much better fit at Wolves

Unfortunately, Disasi hasn’t ever really looked like someone who can take Chelsea to the next level.

The writing was on the wall for him when he was loaned out in January to Villa. Prior to that, his form was too inconsistent when he played for the Blues, so he’s quite far down the pecking order of central defenders at Stamford Bridge.

Disasi is at his best when he operates as a no-nonsense aggressive centre-half, which makes us think he will naturally fit Wolves a lot better.

Back in 2023, Frank Leboeuf was excited about Disasi’s move to Chelsea, but it’s just been a step too far in his career.
