Manchester United have intensified their pursuit of a marquee centre-forward ahead of the new season.
According to the German outlet Bild, Man United have submitted an €85 million (£73.9m) offer to RB Leipzig for striker Benjamin Sesko.
United now find themselves in a fierce transfer tug-of-war with Newcastle United for the Slovenian sensation.
The Magpies have already tabled two proposals, with their latest offer being worth at least €80m.
Leipzig and Sesko have a gentleman’s agreement in place, allowing him to leave if a suitable offer comes from a club of his choosing.
While his contract runs until 2029, the lure of joining United may prove too tempting for the 22-year-old to ignore.
He bagged 21 goals in 45 games across all competitions last season.
The Slovenian striker has all the qualities needed to turn into a future superstar, but has yet to prove his ability at the highest level.
United’s long-term admiration for the striker is well documented, having monitored him closely in both 2019 and 2022.
Sesko is known for his powerful finishing and rapid pace.
At 6ft 5in, Sesko would inject a serious physical presence into the United front line.
Though he has the ability to fire long-range cannons, Sesko still needs to prove that he is clinical in front of goal.
He is still very young, and it would be unrealistic to expect 20 goals in his first season at Old Trafford.
The decision will be up to Sesko to choose his next destination if he opts to say goodbye to Leipzig.
