Manchester United are now formally rivalling Newcastle United for Benjamin Sesko after launching an offer of their own.
Newcastle United upped their offer for the 22-year-old striker on Monday, with a deal worth £78million in total presented to RB Leipzig.
It has been reported that Leipzig will probably accept Newcastle’s Sesko offer. If the offer was accepted and the deal was finalised, Sesko would become Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever.
However, there is still the lingering threat of Manchester United. The Red Devils are also eager to sign the Slovenia international, and have now made their move.

Benjamin Sesko leaning towards Manchester United over Newcastle United
RB Leipzig now have two Sesko offers to consider: Newcastle United’s £78million proposal and a smaller one from Man United.
According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth on X, Man United have offered a deal worth around £74million for Sesko.
That is obviously smaller than Newcastle’s bid, which surely will not appeal to Leipzig. However, there is the complication of what the player wants.
Sheth adds that while Sesko is open to both clubs, a ‘source’ has told him that the attacker is ‘leaning towards’ a move to Old Trafford.

That is not good news for Newcastle United, who could miss out on a third major target to Man United this summer. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have already joined, and now Sesko could too.
Manchester United’s Benjamin Sesko bid could also be bad news for Liverpool
Newcastle United fans will now fear that Sesko will head to the North West rather than the North East.
On top of that, Liverpool will question what it means for their interest in Alexander Isak.
Isak is back at the Newcastle United training ground, and will only be allowed to leave the club if a replacement arrives. That was the idea of the Sesko pursuit, with the Magpies making a huge offer.
That huge offer is still on the table, while there is also Man United’s slightly smaller bid. It is still a very sizeable proposal, and one that Leipzig will strongly be considering.
It could all come down to what the player wants. If that is the case, it is bad news for Newcastle United. And it could be bad news for Isak and his hopes of moving to Liverpool.
