Report: Wilshere in frame for under-21s role

Jack Wilshere is in the running to become head coach of Arsenal’s under-21s, 10 months after leaving the club to take up a role at Norwich City.

The former England international previously led the Gunners’ under-18s before joining the Canaries in October. He left Carrow Road at the end of the season following the departure of head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup.

Before his exit, Wilshere briefly served as interim head coach, overseeing two matches — including a win over Cardiff City, then managed by his former midfield partner Aaron Ramsey.

Wilshere retired from playing in 2022 after an injury-plagued few years that saw him turn out for West Ham, Bournemouth, and Danish side Aarhus. During a period training at London Colney, he began getting involved with the Arsenal Academy, and was later brought back full-time by Per Mertesacker following his retirement.

Arsenal have been seeking a new head coach for the under-21s since Mehmet Ali joined Keith Andrews’ backroom staff at Brentford in July.

According to BBC Sport, the club is yet to finalise a decision on the vacancy, but an appointment is expected soon.
