Everton’s pursuit of new midfielders has been no secret since Abdoulaye Doucoure departed the club at the end of last season.

The Toffees had shown plenty of interest in Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi this summer, with the Foxes facing financial issues.

David Moyes has ensured to keep plenty of backup options in his shortlist of midfielders, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall expected to arrive on Merseyside.

However, a move for Ndidi now looks doubtful after the latest transfer update regarding the midfielder.

Ndidi closing in on Besiktas move

Everton could have potentially signed Ndidi for as little as £9million this summer, with the midfielder available at this price due to a clause in his contract after Leicester City’s relegation.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

However, the Toffees appear to be looking elsewhere to bolster their midfield, with Dewsbury-Hall expected to be one of several midfielders who join before the end of the transfer window.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X (5 August), an agreement between Turkish side, Besiktas, and Ndidi on personal terms is close.

The Turkish side are now only waiting for Ndidi to clarify exit details with Leicester City to get the deal done.

With Moyes looking elsewhere for a new midfielder, the Toffees could turn to two existing targets.

Everton to step up efforts for Douglas Luiz after Ndidi deal

The Blues could now turn their attention back to former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz after Ndidi appears to have moved elsewhere.

Juventus are keen to offload Luiz this summer, but a battle between Everton and West Ham seems to be dragging on.

Moyes could now put his foot down in the race for the Brazilian and push for The Friedkins Group to convince Luiz to relocate to Merseyside.

The Toffees could land Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney, either as an alternative or alongside the 27-year-old, as Everton strive to push for a top-half finish next season.
