Luis Diaz revealed he's planning to write to James Rodriguez after the ex-Everton star admitted his international team-mate was right to swap Liverpool for Bayern Munich. The 28-year-old sealed a £65.5million transfer to the German champions last week after three-and-a-half years on Merseyside.
The Colombian's last season in Red saw him capture the Premier League title and thus every domestic honour possible during his time in England. Wanting a new challenge, Diaz is now preparing for his first season of football in Germany and following in the footsteps of Rodriguez, who spent two seasons on loan in Bavaria from 2017 to 2019.
The 34-year-old, who spent one season at Everton, is now plying his trade in Mexico with Club Leon and was asked about Diaz's move after his side's 2-0 loss to New York City FC in the Leagues Cup earlier this month.
Rodriguez admitted he was in favour of his compatriot's decision to try a new chapter in his footballing career. He told LaBolaSports: "I think Lucho made the right choice. Bayern signed a great player, and Lucho is made for big teams. It's a great club, and he'll help them a lot."
Diaz is only the third Colombian to represent Bayern, after Rodriguez and Adolfo Valencia. The forward admitted he hasn't conversed much with the ex-Real Madrid ace about his transfer but vowed to write to him for advice.

"About James, I haven't spoken much with him," Diaz told local German media. "Maybe I'll write to him to see what advice he has for me about the city, the team and everything else. But so far I haven't had the chance to talk to him."
Rodriguez's loan stint at Bayern did bring forth three major honours, including two Bundesliga titles, but he admitted he was never comfortable at the club due to the issues with the language and the brisk weather.
"First, the cold," he said on Daniel Habif's podcast in 2020. "Then, they are very cold people, although I received spectacular treatment at the club, they liked me a lot. Living there is not easy; it's very cold, -20 degrees. There were days when I would go to work at 9am, start up the car, and it would be -28 degrees.

"I'd say, 'What am I doing here? What am I doing here with -28 degrees?' Munich is a city with a very high quality of life, but I couldn't feel comfortable... the (German) language was very hard for me; I didn't have any desire to learn it.
"I told my (German) teacher in those first four months, 'Look, I'm not going to waste your time and I'm not going to waste mine. I don't want to, I don't want to, I don't want to. I don't want a language that doesn't make me want to learn it; I just didn't want to.'"
James returned to Madrid in 2019 but made just 14 appearances in what turned out to be his last season in Spain. The opportunity to reunite with Carlo Ancelotti saw the Colombian sign for the Toffees but for only one season before he departed for the Qatar Stars League with Al-Rayyan.
