Man United ready to cut losses on misfit as search for new striker continues

Manchester United want to sign a new striker this summer, which could affect the future of Rasmus Hojlund at the club.

The Denmark international has failed to live up to expectations since joining United for £72 million from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, scoring 26 goals in 95 games across all competitions.

While Hojlund wants to stay at United, the club are open to letting him leave for a cut-price fee.

According to The Athletic, the Mancunian giants are ready to sell the Danish forward for £30m, despite his current book value being around £40m.

Inter Milan were linked with Hojlund at the start of the transfer window. They were reportedly ready to sign him on loan with an option to buy at €45m (£39m at current rate), but United wanted an obligation to buy clause.

The Italian giants’ interest in him no longer appears to be concrete after they signed striker Ange-Yoan Bonny from fellow Italian side Parma.

It had also been suggested that Roma could make a late bid for the United star – a move that would see him reunite with his former Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini, now in charge at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, the Rome-based outfit just signed Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, making it unlikely for them to make a move for Hojlund.

While there are presently no takers for the Copenhagen academy product, his new valuation could ignite an interest in him. He could also leave on loan, provided United sign a new striker.

The Red Devils are continuing their push to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, but face competition from Newcastle United for his signature.

The Magpies have made a new bid worth €90m (£78m) for the Slovenia international, while United have yet to submit any bid.

Man United must now act fast to avoid missing out on another striker target.
