**The race for Benjamin Sesko has reached a crucial point after Manchester United made their move for the Slovenian following Newcastle United's improved bid.**
Things were looking good for Newcastle this morning. The bid was accepted, and Benjamin Sesko looked happy to join the Magpies, with the finer points of the contract to be worked out.
But Manchester United finally awoke, and even though they have undercut Newcastle's bid, there's still a feeling that Sesko could be heading to Old Trafford.
Reports had installed Man United as the favourites before they actually bid, so Newcastle fans are now bracing for the worst.

Benjamin Sesko is still open to both clubs
------------------------------------------
Sky Sports reporter Philipp Hinze has posted on X this afternoon that Sesko has reached a verbal agreement with both clubs.
> " Benjamin Šeško and his camp have reached a verbal agreement with both Manchester United and Newcastle. The fundamental terms have been negotiated with both clubs. Decisive hours ahead. Two offers are on RB Leipzig’s table — from Newcastle (€90m) and from Manchester United (€85m)."
It would be perhaps the most Newcastle United thing ever if Sesko were to go to Manchester United despite them offering a lower fee.
Tick follows tick follows tock as Newcastle play the waiting game
-----------------------------------------------------------------
For whatever reason, Newcastle fans have not been allowed to have any kind of positive feelings for very long this summer.
It's now just a waiting game to see how Sesko is leaning. Common sense points towards Newcastle - they've agreed to pay whatever he wants and they can offer Champions League football - but common sense has been pretty absent around Tyneside this summer.
Please, football Gods, give us some good news!
