Five reasons why Benjamin Šeško should sign for Man Utd over Newcastle, including chance to follow icon’s footsteps

Benjamin Sesko will soon decide his future after becoming the subject of formal offers from Manchester United and Newcastle.

Manchester United are still trying to add to their squad after welcoming three new players to Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer.

After reaching an agreement with Cerro Porteno in January, Diego Leon arrived to help stock the left-back position. The Paraguayan wing-back has impressed during pre-season and will provide adequate back-up to Patrick Dorgu.

The other two signings include Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who scored a combined 37 goals in the Premier League last season, whereas the entire United first-team managed just 44.

Now, United are trying to add a goalscorer to the team to ensure more goals are scored next term. The priority target is RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who has been on United’s radar for years.

Sesko is the subject of bids from Newcastle and United, but he has yet to make a final decision over his next club.

At United In Focus, we’ve decided to outline five reasons why it should be a no-brainer for the Slovenia international.

Manchester United are bigger than Newcastle

Newcastle cannot compete with United when it comes to stature.

More United News

United have more trophies, attract greater revenue, own a bigger stadium and are renowned across the world as England’s biggest football club.

Newcastle would be lucky to squeeze into a list of Britain’s top 10 football clubs.

Trophies

Every player wants to win trophies, and Sesko has reached a point in his career where it should be a demand.

Although United failed to win a trophy last season, the Red Devils lifted two trophies in as many years under Erik ten Hag.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are best known for throwing away a 12-point lead in the 1995/96 season under Kevin Keegan.

The Magpies showed how small-time they can be with their Carabao Cup celebrations earlier this year, and now, the majority of football fans hope it takes another 70+ years for them to lift a piece of silverware.

Sesko has a greater chance of winning trophies at Old Trafford than St. James’ Park.

Long-term view to success

Newcastle may be in Europe’s most prestigious competition, but the idea is that United will be a Champions League outfit each season.

It would be naïve of Sesko to make a decision based on one summer.

Over the last two league seasons, Benjamin Šeško has averaged 0.22 goals per shot. That’s a better rate than…

🇸🇪 Alexander Isak (0.21)

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Harry Kane (0.20)

🇳🇴 Erling Haaland (0.18)

🇫🇷 Kylian Mbappé (0.17)

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Ollie Watkins (0.17)

🇪🇬 Mohamed Salah (0.14)

United’s objective will be to return to the Champions League for the 2026/27 season.

Manchester is a better city than Newcastle

Newcastle have a problem here as most players will want to live in Manchester over Newcastle.

Newcastle is a goldfish bowl for top-quality professional footballers and it’s not close enough to be able to go out and commute to be in London.

Manchester, like Liverpool, is a football destination. The same cannot be said for Newcastle.

Sesko should just ask Alexander Isak…

Taking after Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Sesko revealed in the past that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is his role model.

The Slovenian idolises Ibrahimovic and could follow in his footsteps by joining United.

Ibrahimovic never dreamed of playing for Newcastle.
