Swansea City join battle for Manchester City loan swoop

Swansea City are rivalling Watford in the race to sign Manchester City talent Max Alleyne on loan, according to The Athletic.

Swansea City are looking to make strides forward in the 2025/26 campaign after entrusting Alan Sheehan with the permanent head coach role.

The Irishman impressed in his time as caretaker boss, earning the shot at the full-time role. He’s been backed this summer transfer window, but further additions are required if the Swans are to make the strides forward they desire.

Less than a month remains for the remaining business to be done and just days lay between now and the season opener against Middlesbrough. Now, a new player has emerged on the club’s radar.

According to a report from The Athletic, Swansea City are among the sides vying to sign Manchester City talent Max Alleyne on loan.

Championship rivals Watford are also interested in the 20-year-old centre-back, as has been reported before. It is added that several European clubs are keen on signing Alleyne too, with parent club City eager to tie him down to a new contract before sanctioning a first senior loan exit.

Swansea City centre-back options

Swansea City aren’t blessed with depth at the heart of defence, and that is being exposed before the season has even begun.

Captain Ben Cabango is facing a race against time to be available after picking up an injury in pre-season, while summer signing Ricardo Santos will miss the opener due to a knee injury.

That leaves only Cameron Burgess as a natural senior centre-back options available to Sheehan. 20-year-old prospect Filip Lissah has even picked up an ankle issue, so the rookie boss is without a leading academy option as well. Arthur Parker, another youth talent, played alongside Burgess against FC Lorient last week.

The right move at the right time for Max Alleyne?

Manchester City have had Alleyne on the books since the summer of 2021, when he was signed from the Southampton academy. Since then, he has been a mainstay in their youth sides.

Having played extensively at academy level, it feels like the right time for the Bristol-born centre-back to head out, and Swansea City will be determined to persuade the citizens that his development will be best served with them.

Injuries mean he could find swift senior opportunities, though some may argue that would be throwing him in at the deep end given that he is yet to play a senior game.

With Watford and European clubs also keen though, Manchester City and Alleyne are not short of options.
