Reported Liverpool transfer target Rodrygo has sent a clear message as he returns to pre-season training with Real Madrid.
The La Liga club’s preparations for the new campaign were delayed due to their involvement in the Club World Cup over the summer. Under new head coach Xabi Alonso, they progressed all the way to the semi-finals of the competition before being comfortably beaten by Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.
Rodrygo’s limited minutes during the tournament have done little to silence speculation about his future, amid reported interest from Premier League clubs. Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham have all been linked with the Brazilian at various points this summer, and it remains unclear whether a move will materialise before the deadline.
Given the fierce competition for places in Real Madrid’s attack, which is now led by Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo could be deemed surplus to requirements. The latest update from Spanish outlet Marca suggests an exit is still very much on the cards this summer, provided a suitable offer is made.
However, the player remains focused on the season ahead, which could still see him stay in the Spanish capital. Posting on Instagram this week, Rodrygo shared a selection of holiday photos, accompanied by the caption: “Clear mind and many missions ahead!”
The 24-year-old followed this up with an Instagram story from pre-season training, writing: “We return to the office.” Despite the ongoing speculation, Rodrygo himself is showing no signs of being distracted at this stage.
Liverpool will likely need to further strengthen their attack, despite already signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer. Luis Diaz has moved to Bayern Munich, while Darwin Nunez continues to attract interest from both Serie A and the Saudi Pro League.
There is no doubt that Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak remains Liverpool’s primary target, with the club lodging a £110m bid for the striker last week - one that was swiftly rejected by the Magpies. Whether they choose to pivot to alternatives later in the window if no agreement is reached with Newcastle remains to be seen.
