Former winger Shaun Wright-Phillips told Chelsea that they just need to sign an experienced centre-back.
The Blues have had an excellent transfer window so far, ensuring they strengthen in every area of the pitch. However, Enzo Maresca has clearly prioritised his attacking options this summer, as the Blues have signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro up front.
Furthermore, Chelsea added winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, and also young winger Willian Estevao. The business that the Blues have managed to do this summer has allowed them to win the Club World Cup, and has led many to suggest that they could win the Premier League title next season.
Former Blues winger Shaun Wright-Philips told ChelseaNews.com exclusively via AceOdds.com: “You can’t count Chelsea out of the title race. They proved that last season, especially in the first half of the season. They have the firepower in that team, especially with the new ones coming in, to hurt every team and not only in England but in the world, like we have seen at the Club World Cup.”
However, Wright-Phillips believes that their transfer business just needs one more addition if they are to build the perfect team for Maresca.

Wright-Phillips tells Chelsea to sign a centre-back
After what has been a successful window for the Blues, we asked Wright-Phillips if there is anything else that Chelsea need to do this summer.
He said: “I think they are covered in the fullback areas with Cucurella and Reece James, and also Gusto who can play both sides.I think Chalobah was probably their best centre back last season, but he has been told he is not the number one now.”
“I would have said they need a new goalkeeper, but Sanchez showed me something in that World Cup final. The saves he pulled off were unbelievable so if he can continue, they might not need a new goalkeeper.”
“They would need one experienced centre back, that would really benefit the club and the younger players. I think that will happen, but on the other hand clubs nowadays usually buy younger players, but I still hope if they bring in a young centre back that he has a lot of experience and leadership.”
So, the former England star says that they should sign a centre-back, who has experience and leadership…there is one name that jumps out. The Blues have previously been linked to Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi alongside Spurs, Newcastle and Liverpool.
The Blues could go back in for Guehi, who is expected to command a transfer fee of at least £40m this summer. He has experience for both Palace and England, and would be the ideal addition if Chelsea want a defender with ‘experience and leadership’.
