Luka Doncic big plans for Lakers future revealed

Luka Doncic has fully committed to the Los Angeles Lakers and is determined to build a championship-winning team around himself.

Luka Doncic is no longer just a new face in Los Angeles — he’s fully embraced his role as the franchise’s leader and is clear about what it will take to bring another championship banner to the Lakers.

In a report by The Athletic’s Dan Woike, Doncic’s manager Lara Beth Seager confirmed the star guard’s commitment to building a winning culture in LA.

“He wants to get the best players here. He wants to win, and he knows it starts with him,” Seager said.

Since being traded from Dallas six months ago, the 26-year-old Doncic officially committed to the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason by signing a massive extension. He called the move “an honor” and praised the Lakers’ culture as a key factor in his decision to stay long term.

At the extension press conference, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka didn’t hold back, calling Doncic “the best young basketball player in the universe,” highlighting just how important the franchise views his role going forward.

Despite a disappointing first-round playoff exit last season, Doncic hasn’t wavered in his focus. Seager told The Athletic that Luka “has moved on” from his Dallas days and is fully focused on winning with the Lakers.

“His mindset has never been to hop around. His mindset is to win championships,” she added.

The Lakers front office has been busy reshaping the roster with Doncic’s input, landing key veterans like DeAndre Ayton and defensive standout Marcus Smart.

Pelinka called the additions crucial: “We feel like getting DeAndre was huge. And being able to add Marcus—defensive player of the year—not only helps us defensively but puts the league on notice.”

Doncic admitted that this time around, he took a more active role in recruiting talent.

“To build a team to win the championship… Now I’m happy they’re on my team,” he said.

He also shared that he took a month off after the season to reset mentally and physically, focusing on improving conditioning and defense during his offseason training.

While still settling into life in LA, Doncic’s approach to his Lakers tenure is clear: it’s about loyalty and consistency.

“As long as he’s signed with a team, it’s a marriage,” Seager explained. “You’re loyal and you’re faithful through it all.”
