In what’s been an incredibly busy day of West Ham transfer rumours, it’s now MailOnline’s turn to weigh in with their take on all things Claret & Blue.
Earlier today, Sky Sports and talkSPORT revealed interest in Exequiel Palacios and Raheem Sterling, but The Mail now reports that West Ham are targeting two midfielders.
That’ll be music to the ears of many Hammers fans—including myself—who believe midfield remains a major area of weakness. Why the board have left such an important part of the rebuild this late in the window is anyone’s guess, but perhaps the latest news suggests we’re finally addressing it.

The Mail names Juventus midfielder—and long-time West Ham target—Douglas Luiz as one option, though they also note that his wages may be too high. That’s hardly a shock, especially given the club’s recent push for cheaper signings and free transfers.
Still, if we’ve saved money elsewhere, surely that gives us the flexibility to spend big in midfield where it’s most needed? One would certainly hope the savings made on the wages of players like Danny Ings, Evan Ferguson, Aaron Cresswell and the ridiculously remunerated Carlos Soler would have freed-up significant wages.
Doesn’t add-up: West Ham can’t afford Luiz’s wages buy why?
Let’s hope these midfield rumours lead to something concrete, because with the new season just days away, time is running out to get it right.
