It’s only been around six months since star guard Luka Doncic was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers in one of the more stunning trades in NBA history.
Not long after Doncic was the best player on a Mavericks team that came up just three wins short of the 2024 NBA title, Dallas moved him to the Lakers, and big man Anthony Davis was the key piece of the package that the Mavericks received in return.
According to Doncic’s manager, however, her client has moved on from his tumultuous exit from the Mavericks. Lara Beth Seager claimed that the Slovenian isn’t carrying baggage from his departure from Dallas anymore.
“He’s moved on,” she told The Athletic.
A recent decision that Doncic and the Lakers made collectively corroborates Seager’s assertion that Doncic isn’t still hung up on the Mavericks.
Earlier this month, he and the Lakers came to terms on a contract extension that will keep Doncic under contract with the team for the foreseeable future. The deal in question will pay Doncic a whopping $165 million over three years, meaning he will make well over $50 million annually over the duration of his new contract.
Prior to getting moved to the Lakers, Doncic played his first six-plus seasons in the NBA with the Mavericks after the team drafted him with a top-three pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
It didn’t take long for Doncic to stamp himself as an elite player in the NBA, as he finished fourth in the league in MVP voting and earned a spot on the All-NBA First Team in just his second season.
Doncic’s stint in Dallas didn’t last as long as plenty of people thought it would, but he still solidified himself as one of the most talented and accomplished players ever to wear a Mavericks uniform in his tenure with the team.
Hopefully he will go down as an all-time great Laker by the time his stint in Los Angeles comes to an end. Lakers fans are certainly hoping that Doncic can bring a title to the franchise during his career.
