Rob Pelinka Reveals ‘No. 1 Thing’ Lakers Must Consider With LeBron James

The Los Angeles Lakers may be focusing on Luka Doncic a lot these days, but LeBron James remains a vital part of the team and its plans for next season.

What do the Lakers have to do to keep James happy?

Speaking to the press, general manager Rob Pelinka talked about the team’s approach to James.

“I think the number one thing we have to do there is respect he and his family’s decision in terms of how long he’s going to play,” Pelinka said, via The Athletic.

Speaking to the media for the first time this offseason, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka shared his thoughts on LeBron James’ future with the team.

That is the big question: how much longer is James going to play in the NBA?

He’s 40 years old now, but still a hugely impactful player and one who can carry his team often.

Doncic might be the future of the team, but James is a massive part of the present.

He hasn’t made clear how much longer he wants to suit up, although no one would be surprised if he has at least a few more seasons in him.

The Lakers say they are going to take things one season at a time, but there have been rumors of them hoping to get James’ contract off their books next summer.

Does that mean that 2025-26 will be his final year, or will he play beyond that, perhaps for another team?

As always, James is in control of his future, and he isn’t going to stop unless he and his family decide that it’s time.

The Lakers say they are fully on board with James, but how will they feel a year from now?
