Knicks reportedly eye Giannis Antetokounmpo amid trade talks

New York Knicks are closely monitoring Giannis Antetokounmpo’s situation in Milwaukee and are reportedly interested in acquiring the star forward if a trade becomes possible.

New York Knicks are closely monitoring Giannis Antetokounmpo future with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.

Team president Leon Rose and the Knicks’ front office have been tracking Giannis since before the offseason began, preparing for any sudden changes.

While the 30-year-old forward hasn’t publicly requested a trade, league sources say uncertainty around his status is pushing NBA teams to stay alert.

Last season, Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists, while putting up an impressive 33 points per game in the playoffs despite Milwaukee’s early exit.

Edwards noted that the Knicks’ recent contract extension of Mikal Bridges to a four-year, $150 million deal is tied to their strategy on Giannis.

By signing early, Bridges remains eligible for trade before February’s deadline, giving New York flexibility if Giannis decides to move.

The Knicks have also kept key players like Jalen Brunson on affordable contracts to maintain salary cap space, especially under the league’s new financial rules.

Meanwhile, the Bucks have revamped their roster, letting go of Damian Lillard, Brook Lopez, and Pat Connaughton and adding Myles Turner, Cole Anthony, and Gary Harris.

Although Giannis is under contract through 2026-27, the modern NBA often sees big moves even when players have long deals.

Edwards pointed out that “many around the league believe the Knicks are interested in star hunting,” with Giannis as a prime target should the situation develop.
