Leeds United full-back Isaac Schmidt has given his green light to Werder Bremen over a loan exit, but a buy option is wanted by the Bundesliga club.
Leeds have less than a fortnight before their opening day meeting with Everton, and the friendly draw with Villarreal was an encouraging performance, but highlighted multiple shortcomings in Daniel Farke’s lineup.
At full-back, an injury for Jayden Bogle paved the way for Isaac Schmidt to start at Elland Road, amidst ongoing speculation over a pending exit.

Isaac Schmidt agrees Werder Bremen loan terms, waiting for Leeds United green light
It was reported at the back end of July that Schmidt has agreed to leave the club this window with a move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on loan.
What stands in the way is Leeds’ current full-back depth, as Schmidt’s exit would leave only Bogle, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Sam Byram as senior options at full-back – a worrying lack of options to say the least.

Leeds’ stance is that they will sanction an exit for Schmidt, but only once they have sourced a replacement for him.
Werder Bremen eyeing permanent buy option in Leeds United, Isaac Schmidt talks
The latest comes from local German outlet Deich Stube, who reveal that Werder Bremen want a permanent option included in the loan agreement.
Leeds are yet to give their answer on the matter, but positive talks have continued and the German club hope for a breakthrough soon, as the Whites pursue a replacement.
That replacement joining at Elland Road would pave the way for Schmidt to leave the club, less than 12 months on from his £4.5million arrival.
Isaac Schmidt needs to leave Leeds United to progress his own career
Schmidt has been treated very unfairly at Leeds in terms of playing opportunities, barely used in the Championship despite looking very useful in his limited cameos.
The issue that we have with Farke not playing Schmidt is that he’s now not ready to be called upon for us in the Premier League, essentially wasting a year of his career sitting on the bench and now set to leave on loan.
Farke obviously has wanted to see more from Schmidt on the training ground to deem him useful, but his lack of faith now leaves us having to replace him with another full-back signing, when we’re already running low on time to overhaul the attack.
