Leeds United have announced that midfielder Charlie Crew has completed a loan transfer to League One side Doncaster Rovers.
The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with the same club, helping Rovers to win the League Two title. During his time at the Eco-Power Stadium he played 13 times.
Leeds have now confirmed that he will return to the same club on a season-long loan as he looks to test himself at a higher level.
Speaking about his transfer, Crew told Doncaster’s official website: “I’m really excited to be back and I can’t wait to get started. Last season was a successful time for the six months that I was here.
“I know the staff, I know the players and I know the fans. At the end of the day, it was an offer that I couldn’t turn down.”
Manager Grant McCann also outlined his delight at getting the deal over the line.
"We’ve been chasing Charlie all summer - probably from the last game of the season at Notts County,” he said. “We made it clear to Charlie and to Leeds that we’d love to have him back.
“Charlie is highly thought of at Leeds. He’s been around their pre-season programme, played in some of the games and went away on the trip with them so we had to be patient to get him.
“I’m delighted that he’s chosen us because there was some big clubs in League One chasing him but Charlie and Leeds have decided this is the best place for him to play his football.”
Crew’s latest loan deal comes at a time where there is a lot of changes being made to the Leeds squad as they prepare for life back in the Premier League. Daniel Farke’s side have so far added midfielder’s Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach to their squad, meaning that Crew would face more competition for regular game time.
The loan deal will therefore ensure that he gets said game time throughout the season before returning to Leeds next summer.
