Shaun Wright-Phillips' one piece of advice to Estevao Willian following Chelsea arrival

Former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is expecting big things from Estevao Willian.

After turning 18 in April, Estevao has finally joined Chelsea and will be part of their first-team squad in the new season.

The Brazilian has already proven himself against Premier League opposition, scoring against his new side at the Club World Cup.

Estevao has since been spotted at Cobham, and Wright-Phillips has some words of advice for the former Palmeiras player ahead of his Chelsea debut.

Shaun Wright-Phillips urges Estevao not to change his style

A young South American who is yet to play in Europe, Estevao could easily become a target for Premier League defenders, especially if he starts pulling out tricks.

Wright-Phillips, though, wants him to be brave and has told the Brazil international not to change his playing style.

In an interview with Chelsea News, the ex-wide man said: “Don’t change the way you play would be the advice I would give Estevao. For a winger, it’s very important to be unpredictable and make the full-back work. He did that all through the Club World Cup, and I can imagine he has done it all through the season in Brazil.

“If he comes here with that same attitude, it is going to be hard to stop him, because he looks like a young lad with a lot of confidence who just wants to take people on. He just wants to score goals and create a lot of chances.”

Enzo Maresca has a really talented group of wingers, with Pedro Neto and new signing Jamie Gittens also in his squad.

Chelsea are set to add to that as well as they target Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho. A Garnacho sale is not imminent, but the Blues retain a strong interest in the 21-year-old and are expected to make a move for him before the transfer window closes.

Estevao Willian shares his excitement over Chelsea move

Estevao has had to wait a year to join Chelsea, but he is now at the club and is ecstatic about his new adventure.

Estevao recently spoke about his move, saying: “Man, I can’t wait, seriously, to wear a Chelsea jersey, to represent Chelsea, you know? Especially now that there’s the Champions League, there will be important championships, the Premier League. I can’t wait, I’m so excited.”

Chelsea supporters may get to see Estevao in action on Friday, with their side taking on Bayer Leverkusen in a friendly.

If not, there could also be an opportunity on Sunday, as the Conference League holders have another pre-season game against AC Milan.

After that, Chelsea get down to serious business, taking on Crystal Palace in their first match of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign. Fans should get to see Estevao in at least one of those fixtures.
