The 23-year-old arrived from Schalke in 2022 and has since gone on to make 85 appearances for the club, while his participation in pre-season so far this summer after a touted move to Como collapsed would suggest that he’s primed to add to that tally under Massimiliano Allegri this season.

However, speculation over his future seemingly refuses to go away entirely, as [Fabrizio Romano](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1952751304578580966) reports that Newcastle are expected to make an approach for the German defender, and talks may well take place between the two clubs over a possible transfer even though Thiaw is now considered an important player for Allegri.
It’s been a busy summer for the Rossoneri thus far as the club rebuild the squad to suit Allegri’s ideas, and so should Thiaw depart, that would require a replacement to be signed in order to fill that new void.
Fikayo Tomori, Strahinja Pavlovic and Matteo Gabbia would be our remaining options in that department should a departure materialise, and so it remains to be seen if Milan are willing to sell, and whether or not we move to identify a successor before green lighting an exit.
At 23 years of age, Thiaw has a big future ahead of him as he continues to improve, develop and gain experience to mature into a better all-round centre-half, and so it could be argued that it would be a mistake to let him leave at this point in his career, particularly if Allegri feels as though he now has a vital role to play for him in the upcoming campaign.
That said, much will potentially depend on the offer Newcastle make if talks advance to that stage, as if it could help fund a move for a replacement and to continue to strengthen the overall squad, Milan may be open to negotiations, and time will tell if there will be another reshuffle in a different area of the squad after our moves at left-back, right-back and in midfield thus far.
