By Wednesday night, we should have a definitive answer as to whether or not Benjamin Sesko will be a Newcastle United player, or a Manchester United one.
It’s a decision that could either get our pre-season relatively back on track, or leave it damaged beyond repair.
Should the Slovenian instead choose the move to Old Trafford over St James’ Park, it may not be all doom and gloom however.
As a new report from Europe has just listed one of our previously-linked forwards as available at a relatively bargain price…
According to French outlet Le10Sport, Ligue 1 champions PSG are willing to sell striker Gonçalo Ramos this summer.
And the Portuguese international looks to be available at £55m.
With Ousmane Dembélé having just enjoyed the best season of his career playing as the No.9 under Luis Enrique, Ramos’ chances of starting first team football for PSG look very bleak.
He still recorded a very impressive 19 goals in 46 appearances however, including three in the Champions League. Something we’re lacking in our current team is that experience on Europe’s biggest stage, and Ramos would certainly add some to our squad.
Plenty of strikers have been linked with a move to Tyneside in the last two months alone, but just who would be the best fit under Eddie Howe.
Benjamin Sesko is obviously the top target, and it would take something calamitous to see us miss out on him now after we’ve submitted a club record bid for the 22-year-old.
Ramos boasts the Champions League experience, and would be the most relatively ‘affordable’ premium striker available to us this window: something that would allow us to invest elsewhere in the squad.
Nicolas Jackson however offers something neither man can: Premier League experience. It’s something we know Howe values, and there’s definitely huge potential in the Senegalese striker that Chelsea just hasn’t been able to tap into yet.
But of course, it’s Chelsea, and the Blues value him at at least £80m – money we simply can’t give to a rival for a European place.
