Former Man United boss Ten Hag is reportedly keen to sign a current United player and reunite at Bayer Leverkusen.

Former Man United boss Ten Hag is reportedly keen on a United attacker, which could help boost the Red Devils’ transfer budget. Ten Hag signed him once already when he was in charge at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag ‘pushing hard’ to sign Rasmus Hojlund

One name that has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford is striker Rasmus Hojlund, whose future could be made uncertain considering that United are looking to bring in a new number nine this summer.

The Danish international had a poor season under both Ten Hag and Amorim last year, he scored just four goals in the Premier League and could reportedly get sold for around £40m this summer, according to recent reports.

AC Milan have reportedly enquired to sign him, and there is also interest from Napoli, who have been linked with Hojlund since January. But, it has now emerged that former United boss Ten Hag wants to sign the 22-year-old for Bayer Leverkusen.

Caught Offside are reporting that Ten Hag is ‘pushing hard’ to sign Hojlund this summer, as he looks to replace Florian Wirtz, who signed for Liverpool earlier in the transfer window. They say that despite Hojlund’s poor form last year, Ten Hag still believes in his potential and wants to sign him for a second time. United spent £72m on him during Ten Hag’s reign in 2023.

Since then, Hojlund has scored 26 goals in his 95 games for the Red Devils, and remains under contract from his current deal with United for a further three years until June 2028.

Man United reject Inter’s Hojlund bid

One of the clubs that are very keen to sign Hojlund is Champions League finalists Inter Milan, as they reportedly made an offer to Man United to sign the 22-year-old earlier in the transfer window. However, it was turned down by the Red Devils as the bid involved a two-year loan with an option to buy.

The same report by Caught Offside claims that Inter’s proposal attracts Hojlund due to them having Champions League football. Although it has been reported that Hojlund would like to stay at United, the increasing reports suggesting the Old Trafford club could sign Sesko indicate that they don’t view him in their plans.

United are open to selling Hojlund this summer, but it has to be the right deal, and they would only sell him on a permanent deal rather than a loan. However, if Hojlund does stay at Old Trafford, he could play more of a backup role assuming that United are able to sign Sesko to be their main striker.
