Chelsea are interested in a potential move for Manchester United player Alejandro Garnacho

Chelsea have enjoyed a productive summer, quietly going about their business whilst Liverpool make all the noise up north.

The early signings of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro made an immediate impact with the Blues riding the wave of the Europa Conference League win by following it up by becoming club World Champions with both new additions playing a key role. Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart aren’t done there though with more reinforcements set to arrive.

Chelsea continue to be linked with Alejandro Garnacho

The Man Utd winger is one of five players who demanded to leave Old Trafford, however, interest in the 21-year old has been limited in terms of offers. Six goals in 36 Premier League games last season isn’t inspiring teams to fork out upwards of £50m when there are other players on the market who cost less and who don’t have a history of annoying managers.

Who Chelsea could target instead of Alejandro Garnacho?

If, as expected, Chelsea get the signing of Simons over the line, the left-hand side of the attack is well catered for. It certainly doesn’t need another player on big wages, however, if an out-and-out winger for that side is a target for Winstanley and Stewart, then they should be looking elsewhere.

One player who has already been targeted is Nick Woltemade of VFB Stuttgart, the “Two-metre Lionel Messi” equally as happy out on the wing and taking on full-backs or playing as a no.9 and being the target for crosses or bringing other forwards into play.

At 23-years old he is ready for the next step in his career but, despite agreeing personal terms with Bayern Munich, it doesn’t look like the German giants are close to agreeing a fee with Stuttgart.

It might be a small gap, however, the door is still open for Chelsea in a deal that would cost less than Garnacho for a more versatile player. In terms of a more like-for-like alternative, another cheaper option for a winger who has, potentially, a higher ceiling than the United wide man is Lyon’s Malick Fofana.

Everton have made an offer for the 20-year old who scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 41 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit last season.

Numbers that are more impressive when you consider that he only played around 22 games in terms of minutes due to competing with players like Rayan Cherki, who has since joined Man City for £34m. Fofana isn’t as highly rated as Cherki was either which gives an indication as to how much Lyon might accept for the young Belgian.
