Report: Wolves have 'major interest' in 'special' Premier League teenager, he's cost them £20m+

Wolverhampton Wanderers may be about to add one of the most exciting teenage wingers in the Premier League to their squad, according to reports - with the club thought to be eyeing a move for Liverpool youngster Ben Doak after some impressive form throughout England and Scotland in previous seasons.

The report by journalist David Lynch on X (formerly Twitter) states that Doak is attracting 'major interest' this summer ahead of a potential move away from Anfield - and that could see Wolves make a move for his services as they aim to bolster their squad.

There is no doubting that Vitor Pereira's side have cash readily available to spend, having sold Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester United and Manchester City respectively for a combined £100million, and Doak could become one of the various new arrivals at Molineux to help cope with the loss of two of their best players.

West Ham United are also major admirers of the young Scottish winger, whilst Arne Slot's men rejected £20million bids from Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace in the January transfer window. Despite the Reds holding out for a fee higher than that, Wolves' interest hasn't waned - especially with Mohamed Salah being offered a new contract, alongside Harvey Elliott so far failing to leave Anfield and new arrival Jeremie Frimpong being able to feature down the right-hand flank, meaning that there could be diminished minutes for Doak next season.

Doak, 19, made his first-team debut for Celtic in January 2022 having only just turned 16 years of age, enough for Liverpool to agree terms with the teenager for a compensation fee of just £600,000. The 'special' young winger made his debut just two days before his 17th birthday, coming on as a substitute against Derby County in the FA Cup, before signing a professional contract.

Injuries hampered his development in the 2023/24 campaign, and last season's loan spell at Middlesbrough was impressive, with Doak registering 10 goal contributions in 24 games before he suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of action from February onwards.

Wolves have brought in Fer Lopez and Jhon Arias in the wide areas, though the departures of Cunha, Goncalo Guedes, Pablo Sarabia and Chiquinho have left them light in those areas.
